Our Out of Home Care Program (OOHC) exists to enhance the quality of life for the children and young people we support as well as families and carers. We cater for children and young people with low to high support needs living in OOHC by providing innovative support and creating safe, nurturing and secure environments. The Pilbara team are looking for mature, dedicated and self-motivated individuals to fill casual support worker positions in Newman.

To meet the needs of the people we support, our ideal applicant will be experienced supporting young people with challenging behaviours, high and complex needs in a residential care setting.  They are people who are able to assist, enable, encourage, and above all respect the young people they work with. Their primary focus is to ensure we deliver quality, person-centered support that enhances quality of life, promotes individual choice and respects the needs, interests, and culture of the people they support.

You will work as part of a team led by a locally based support manager. Hours of the role will depend on the needs of the program and the young people we support. There is also the option of sleepover shifts which are 24 hour blocks of time. This would be when the carers are on respite or annual leave. 

Make It Matter - What you will bring to make a difference in other's lives

  • Transporting young people to and from appointments, education and community activities
  • Engaging and coaching young people to achieve goals and embrace their culture
  • Administering Medication
  • Assisting with every day needs such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, meal preparation
  • Supporting young people with trauma or complex behaviours
  • Assisting with personal care

To be considered for these opportunities, you will need the following;

  • Driver's License
  • Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Practice and knowledge or experience in meeting the holistic needs of Children who have experienced significant trauma and/or a disability
  • Understanding the obstacles living in a remote area, cultural awareness and community knowledge
  • Most of all to have the passion and drive to help support Children to create positive outcomes in their lives
  • Willing to undertake a National Police Check Clearance

Desirable, not essential for the role

  • Experience working with Children and Young People who have experienced complex trauma backgrounds
  • Experience working with Children and Young People who display difficult or challenging behaviours
