The Opportunity
We are seeking an energetic, compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Live in Carer for our Residential services in Albany, WA. In this role you will be providing 24-hour care and support to 4 young people, all with high levels of emotional and behavioural needs.
As the successful candidate, you will understand the importance of high-quality services, which meet the needs of the Children and Young People and our responsibilities under the Child Care and Protection Act. You will be required to attend mandatory training at least three times per year to ensure that your knowledge and skills are kept up to date. As part of your role you will also be responsible for daily communication with your manager, weekly reports and attending team meetings.
Live In Carers in the houses are strong positive role models who are responsible for a wide range of duties including providing positive support in the following areas - emotional behaviour, health, incident management, personal care and hygiene, transport, education, community access, cooking and domestic duties which are performed in a safe, consistent, and secure home. The Live In Carers are responsible to help, guide and support the Children and Young People to develop independent living skills while ensuring all of their day to day care needs are being met. This includes the implementation of clear routines, structure and positive behaviour support practices and strategies.
Whilst not every day is going to be the same, you are responsible for all household activities including cleaning, washing, meal preparation, transporting to and from school and engaging our young people in various social activities.
Essential requirements
- Experience providing direct care in residential services (Out of Home Care) and/or disability based accommodation support services with Children and Young People
- Sound practice and knowledge or significant experience in meeting the holistic needs of Children and Young People who may have Autism or Intellectual Disability
- Certificate 3 or 4 in Youth Work, Welfare, Community Services
- Experience working with Children and Young People who have experienced complex trauma backgrounds.
- Experience working with Children Young People who display difficult or challenging behaviours
- Good working knowledge of the Children and Young Person’s (Care and Protection) Act 1998
- Strong knowledge and experience with the Community networks
- Driver’s license
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Working With Children Check, 395 Clearance and National Criminal history check clearance
